Golfers’ fundraising has been in full swing…
Last year, we were so honoured when the new Captains of Reigate Hill Golf Club, Carolyn and Robert, shared that Peeps had been chosen as their Charity of The Year.
The connection with the golf club is though members Dean and Sarah. Their daughter Molly had an HIE event when she was born in 2020 and they became part of the Peeps community. As a family they have always been so supportive of what Peeps tries to do and given so much back already; this really was more than we could have expected.
The early conversations with Carolyn and Robert were about the events they had planned, how they didn’t want to put pressure on their fundraising (we completely understood this!), and that they would do their best to raise awareness too.
It’s safe to say they exceeded all expectations. Awareness was certainly raised, and Carolyn’s husband was even spotted by our Chair of Trustees, Jen Cawthorne, shopping at Cheshire Oaks sporting a Peeps hoodie!
When it came to revealing the grand total for the year we were totally blown away – a whopping £18,724 (money was even coming in after the cheque was presented). This was through a variety of events, including a Drive In, Captains’ Day, away days and weekends, Charity Day, auctions, fines (!), a 72-hole challenge, matched giving, donations and more. Saying thank you just doesn’t seem quite enough.
As a small charity, we rely on donations and fully understand what a challenging time financially it is for so many people. We have also seen an increase in the number of families reaching out to us for support, so this amount will make a huge difference in making sure we can continue to help as many people as possible, and that no-one on their HIE journey feels alone.
On behalf of all of us at Peeps, to all of you at Reigate Golf Club, a heartfelt thank you. You’re amazing!
